Ruth: Welcome to the blog, Debbie Lynn. It’s great to have you here and be able to share more about you and the content services that can be found at The E-Content Butler. Tell us more.
Debbie Lynn: I help busy professionals save time and shine online. I assist in planning their online presence, creating custom content, and editing material they already have that needs a little polish. After getting client approval, I then post this content in a variety of locations and formats that appeal to their target audience. My most requested services are designing that first website, blogging, preparing e-mail newsletters, and co-writing e-books.
Ruth: You’re the total package when it comes to writing content. Would you share what led you to consider a virtual profession and how you got started?
Debbie Lynn: I got started as a virtual volunteer while I was busy raising a family. When I realized how many people either hate to write or are simply too busy to create good online content, I decided to start my own business.
Ruth: We first met via a volunteering project. It’s awesome how much volunteering you pack into your schedule. Along the way have you had a mentor or sponsor to support, guide, encourage and open doors for you?
Debbie Lynn: I was fortunate to discover SCORE and the Kutztown University Small Business Development Center when I was first thinking of starting a business. Their Business Planning series—held at my local library here in southeastern Pennsylvania—was invaluable in developing a sound, still-relevant business plan.
Ruth: I’m glad you mentioned SCORE because they have excellent resources and services. [To connect with a SCORE chapter in your community click here.] If you could share a nugget of insight or bit of advice for someone considering a virtual career such as yours what would that be?
Debbie Lynn: Do what you love best! Being a business owner can be a lot of work, so focus on something you enjoy instead of just trying to make money.
An added bonus: when you are passionate about your work, it’s much easier to create interesting content to build your online presence and engage current and future customers.
Ruth: ‘Find your passion and fire and the money will follow’ as they say. Great advice, Debbie Lynn. Now tell me, what bits of advice would you give someone seeking a virtual professional such as yourself?
Debbie Lynn: Look for an ethics statement and/or social proof of integrity, especially if you need a ghostwriter or Web content creator. There are too many people out there who feel it’s okay to plagiarize. I have a code of ethics statement that appears as part of my guarantee on my website. I also have an EthicsCheck verification from the International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA). Best of all, I’m passionate about helping others tell their story, and I think my clients feel that excitement and respond.
Ruth: These tips are sure to be helpful for those seeking a top-notch writer. Any last thoughts or comments you’d like to share with our readers?
Debbie Lynn: You are unique. Use your gifts and talents to make a difference in the world—not just to earn a living. You’ll be glad you did. I do practice what I preach—I’m still a virtual volunteer, blogging for my favorite non-profit.
Ruth: Thanks so much for chatting with me, Debbie Lynn.
If you’d like to have Debbie Lynn’s assistance with your content writing projects contact her at her website. She’d also be delighted to help you get that book out of your head and into others’ hands.
BONUS: Debbie Lynn has put together a special offer around her Ongoing Online Presence Management Service which consists of custom content writing, editing, and/or posting.
Thank you, Ruth, for including me in your in-depth look at virtual professionals. May your blog inspire many to stop settling for jobs they dislike and start doing what they love.
It’s been my pleasure to host you, Debbie Lynn. Thanks again for allowing me to share your experiences with the readers.
